Somewhat like Kirk, sure, but I have to take the old "Raptorman" approach here and say that the QB position isn't everything. He has had a terrible defense for years and a bad coach. And a GM who has made plenty of blunders, like drafting a bust at WR when Flowers and Addison were on the board. They might have 2 more wins if they made that choice. Or signing a CB $100M and then turns into garbage immediately (JC Jackson). You have to pair a good QB on a rookie deal with at least semi-competent coaches and an average defense. And WRs who can catch passes.

The difference here is that Herbert longs for the Vikings teams Kirk got to play for in 2018-2019. Just as good weapons and waaaaay better defenses. Not the 2020-2022 defenses though. That's why it's so infuriating that Kirk stepped up his game once the defense went into the toilet.

Herbert the opposite of Purdy. Who has good defenses to work with. Herbert has 59 games so far. Only 15 has his defense held the other team to 19 points or less, and he won every one of those games. 20-25 points he went 8-6. So that's 30 games were he has been asked to score more than 25 points to win. And in those games he's 6-24. So half of his games he's been asked to do what very few QB can do on a regular basis. Win when you defense gives up more than 25 points.

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you are not capable of great violence, you are not peaceful, you are harmless.

On that note, since we're talkin Chargers. Dan Fouts used to win those types of games which you've described on a routine basis. Then again, he had a lot of help from Winslow, Jefferson and Joiner. Don Coryell wasn't called "air" for nothin.

I consider this to be good news. Though they could come down with two studs with the two top 5 picks they'll probably have in the draft next year.

When have the Bears in their history ever had a Quarterback? Bears MO has always been centered around defense and ground game. Clueless, it's like the Vikings and finding field goal kickers.

Hooker is likely good to go after waiting a long time after his injury in his last game in college. He'll be Detroit's 3rd string QB when activated.

Long-term, it will be intriguing to see how his career develops after so many had him pegged to the Vikings in the 1st round.

Jim McMahon was a Pro Bowl QB for the Bears, but that was forever ago. The 1985 Bears had the #1 defense that year they won the super bowl. But what most folks don't remember is that the McMahon led offense was #2 in the entire NFL that year. His problem was that he was often injured. He was a gutsy QB but made of glass. But your point is well-taken because the last great QB they drafted was in the 1939 draft. They drafted Sid Luckman, a Hall of Fame QB who was amazing. And "no" I'm not old enough to have watched old Sid play *lol*

- although I do remember QB George Blanda whom they drafted in 1949. He was amazing in the latter part of his career. He's in the Hall of Fame but mostly as a kicker... the guy was one heck of a QB though for the Oakland Raiders as a backup QB... I loved watching him play in those later years (he played 26 years during his pro career).

That offensive line had the benefit of practicing against one of the greatest NFL defense of all time every week. McMahon got himself hurt with his attitude and mouth. Bears defense routinely provided their offense with short fields to work with.

If you asked the typical Bears fan who George Blanda was, they wouldn't have a clue. lol.

I agree. The D set up the offense back then with short fields over and over again. The OL back then was one of the best I've ever seen... tackle to tackle with 5 studs. Walter Peyton was a fantastic receiving RB as well as one of the greatest running backs of all time. He was also a lethal weapon with YAC. And I know Willie Gault was not thought of as a great receiver. But he was a lot better than many give him credit for. He was a world class Olympic sprinter and also set world records in the high hurdles... he was one of the fastest human beings on earth at that time. Hard to cover for sure. So, yeah, McMahon had a loaded offense to work with for sure.

Payton was a fantastic blocking back as well. The total complete package of what a RB/football player is supposed to be. Hated Payton for a long time. But over time it's very evident that he was the greatest RB of all time. Forgot to mention he missed 1 game his entire career(insane). E. smith, Peterson, Sanders, Marus Allen, doesn't matter, They're not in the same class.
