You are right, there's no way any team in their right mind is giving up a 5th rounder for Bustwell. Maybe, maybe someone gives up a conditional 7th rounder for him. If a team wants him, just wait 'til he's cut.

I think back to the night we drafted him, sitting next to Mel at the Draft Party. I allowed myself to be convinced it was a decent pick...but, deep down, I knew he was slow, I knew he was a sub-standard route runner, I knew there were 100 other reasons to draft a receiver before touting how good a run blocker he is (and, boy was that overstated, he's a great blocker if the defender ain't looking-problem is, it's a penalty and the refs are looking).

I could lie, say I wanted Michael Thomas to try to look like a genius in hindsight...but I wanted Hunter Henry for all the same reasons we drafted Irv Smith. TEs should be a QBs best friend. And we drafted a TE, only he's too small, too slow, and can't block-and we tried to have him play WR and it really, really, really, really, really, really didn't work out.

5 are out of football
19 have less than 3 catches a game.
15 have played in less than 50% of the games they were eligible for.

The bust rate for the first round players usually runs at about 40%. The fact that the Vikings have 4 bust's on WR's in the first round is just bad luck.

Yeah, it really seems like drafting NFL players is a lot like being a good batter in baseball where hitting 33% will get you in the Hall of Fame

I'd say it's more than bad luck... But based on those numbers, I'd also say that drafting a WR in the 1st round is a pretty bad thing to do in general...

I know this, I'd rather spend a late round pick on a specialist than draft a WR in the 1st if these numbers are accurate. Think about that.

I just don't think he fits our offense and his confidence is probably affecting his poor play as well. He's too slow and is not the best route runner. In college he was great at winning jumpballs but the Vikings are not confident in him even in one on one coverage. lol But I feel like on another team he may thrive.

I'm actually pretty confident he won't. I was more worried about Patty.

Treadwell just has nothing to offer. At all.

Why would he thrive? He can't run, he can't catch, he can't run routes, he isn't motivated to become a better player - there's just nothing there.

If Troy Williamson learned how to catch the ball, he'd become a dangerous receiver. If Patterson learned how to run routes and learned how to get open, he'd be a #1 WR. Treadwell would need to learn how to catch the ball, reverse the damage from the injury on his knee (he had a gruesome knee injury in college), need to learn how to run a route, and then find the motivation to become a better player!

You know that's not a bad idea. But with our luck, no one would claim him off of waivers and we would be stuck with paying him, only to have him turn around and sign with another team for the minimum.
