To continue on with PotGoblin's Pick 4, here we go with this year's edition.

For both new and old players, here are the rules and prizes.

Prizes:

Regular season winner: a free Vikings ticket to a game of your choice next season (as well as the opportunity to buy a ticket right next to it to bring a guest)

Postseason winner: replica Lombardi trophy with your name or username on it OR a Vikings plaque of some sort.

When the time comes, I'll be in touch with the winners to discuss options. So far, we know the (home) opponents for the '19 season are:

Vikings '19 Home Games

Chicago Bears
Detroit Lions
Green Bay Packers
Philadelphia Eagles
Washington Redskins
Denver Broncos
Oakland Raiders
NFC South Same Place Finisher

As far as postseason winners, I'll provide a few options for the replica trophies and plaques, and the winner will be allowed to choose his/her favorite.

Here are the rules for Purple Pain's Pick 4. They are simple enough, but I assure you this is a fun game with plenty of surprises along the way.

Rules:

Each week, you'll find the appropriate thread and post your picks. Your four picks will consist of the following:

Game 1: Lock of the Week. - 1pt
Game 2 : Divisional Matchup - 2pts
Game 3 : Upset Special - 3pts
Game 4 : Wildcard - 1pt
Max weekly score - 7pts

Explanations of these picks:

Lock of the week - This is the winner you are most sure of.

Divisional Matchup - You must pick a winner in a divisional matchup (these will be in bold and in red to help you choose).

Upset Special - Upset special is the most challenging - and, therefore, worth the most points. This is where you pick an underdog. These will be underlined so you know the options you can choose from. I will choose a few games each week to be eligible. Eligibility could be because of the spread, current records, recent history, etc. They'll be picked using a variety of factors.
***Note the new Upset Special option of NO UPSETS (explained in the weekly threads).

Wildcard - This is any game of your choosing.

How should your posts look as you post your weekly picks? Example here:

Lock: Packers over Bears
Divisional: Saints over Bucs
Upset: Browns over Steelers
Wildcard: Vikings over Niners

Last year we did not enforce the rule saying that if you pick Thursday's game you must pick all other games before the start of Thursday's. Are we enforcing that rule this year? If not, why is it still there?

If we do enforce it, then we should also have a rule that says if you pick any noon games that all your picks must be in at that time.

My opinion is that we should have and enforce both rather than not.

If an injury happens to a key player in practice between Thursday and Sunday, it's unfair that someone can't change that Sunday pick. Whereas if someone submits their picks Tuesday, Wednesday or whatever, but they don't pick the Thursday game, they're still free to change their picks by Sunday if a key player gets injured. Players are getting injured in practice all the time lately. Watson, Teddy, McKinnon. I figured as long as the Thursday picker made a separate post for their other picks, or Sunday changes, it's fair. I guess Funktown will have to include more upsets, but I suppose that could lead to there being more easy upset picks, so tough call.

If you're thinking that getting rid of the Thursday rule will help you, I seriously doubt that. (roflmao)

There is usually around a handful of upsets each week; I think that's good enough.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect participants to submit all of their picks at the same time. I'm sure Reign keeps on top of it, but what if he doesn't? What if someone picks the Thursday game only, it goes bad, and they come back to delete their post and then submit all Sunday picks ... and it goes unnoticed? I'm not saying anyone would do that, but it's a possibility.

If people are worried about injuries, wait until the weekend. If people want the easy Thursday pick, take the chance regarding injuries.

Y'all are overthinking it. This game is meant to be fun ... and it is! So everyone get in on the action and play!

So are you saying you want to keep the Thursday rule and enforce it too? The whole reason I brought it up was because a couple times last season the rule was broken but we didn't enforce it. If I recall correctly, one time someone did not pick all of their games on Thursday when they picked the Thursday game, and another time someone who did not pick Thursday did not get all their picks in by the start of Sunday's games. Neither of these affected the final outcome, but if they had it wouldn't be fun for the person playing by the rules to be overtaken by someone who wasn't.

So I'm not overthinking it, I'm only thinking that we needs to make it equally fair for everyone. So if we keep the rules as is, we should enforce them. If we arent going to enforce a rule, we should get rid of the rule.
