I'm not saying Dungy is an awful coach, but I think he lucked out. He didn't leave Tampa Bay to go coach Jacksonville, he went to a team that was already built to win championships. Like when George Seifert took over the 49ers.

It's probably a bit of both. I would argue that part of being a successful manager (and that's what the HC is) is hiring good staff that's talented enough so that you can let them do their thing. I think Zimmer gets that. I'm not so certain that any of the other HCs did. That falls, in my opinion, on the GM as well. The problem is that most HCs in football are football players. They may understand the Xs and Os, which is definitely a part of the job, but very few of then naturally have the organizational management skills to get the right people in the right place and let them succeed.

I'd say Dungy falls somewhere in-between. You have to keep in mind that before he took over in Tampa, that team was one of the long standing dumpster fires of the NFL. Dungy changed that and built that defense. Where he fell short, was on offense and that is why Gruden eventually got the ring. Gruden improved the offense enough to put that club over the top. Dungy did mostly the same thing as Gruden in Indy. He came in, coached up the defense a bit and rode the established offensive juggernaut to a ring.

Not sure what you meant here, but $1.15M of Treadwell's 2019 salary (his fourth year) of $1.8M is guaranteed. To your point, he doesn't look like much of a candidate for the 5th year option at this point. He would likely need to have a big year in 2018 for us to exercise that option next spring.

...except Sloter only spent one week on the practice squad because of Bradford's injury. He spent the rest of the season on the 53 man roster.

I'm pretty sure it's the weeks they are there. No idea how the playoffs work, but I'm guessing that would be extra weeks depending on winning games. 7600x17 is 129k. Still not bad for a 23 year old fresh out of college, but given that they don't exactly have high paying jobs lined up once they leave the NFL, it's really not that much.
