Hill will be a great piece if he gets the required time to learn from this staff.....his speed and size are a huge plus for him.

if Downs were to be waived then claimed before making the PS it would be less of a loss than if it were Hill IMO.

and revisiting the TE position:

i'm looking at the 3rd TE spot as the guy who would be groomed to potentially replace Rudolph at some point.....at least that's how i would determine who to keep, the guy with more potential and diverse skillset. I think Morgan is a stud in the mold of Sauce...probably a better routerunner/receiver and between him and Kyle you have a very adequate manning of the position. So, to me the difference between Bell and Conklin is who can ultimately bring more down the road even if they aren't meeting that potential currently....with the idea that either of them could function well enough at the basics of the position to not be a weak link if they are in the game.

- I'll have the Vikings carry 3 QBs for the moment even though I'm thinking about Sloter getting the backup job.
- Conklin is in over Bell. Blake has been about as underwhelming as possible.
- Chad Beebe has to be the best of the UDFA crop, right? Zylstra got all the hype but Chad is clearly kicking the competition's butt this preseason. Do we have the next Thielen here (or something similar?)
- With the addition of Iloka, I think the Vikings can carry just 5 LBs and use Iloka at LB on passing downs. Brothers can be the 6th LB when his suspension is over.
- It's too early to give up on Daniel Carlson. Two missed kicks suck, but you have to give him the chance to rebound.

After watching all 3 pres-season games, I have to agree with you on Sloter. I think he's doing better than Siemien. Maybe it's just me. But his passes look faster, and more on the mark. Now, maybe because he's playing 3rd string. I'm not sure Kendall Wright makes the team. Has he even had a pass thrown his way?

wienecke at least makes the practice squad.

the guy has tons of potential and could ultimately be a TE.

the story on him is that he needs to learn how to hand fight and get off the jam....but he has the best catch radius on the team IMO...even better than rudolph. the guy is money in the redzone.

Based on the premise that the OL is the weakest group and we need as much help as we can get, who do you cut in favor of keeping Edison?

A D lineman? Do we really need Robison, Bower AND Weatherly who are all strictly DEs? Maybe they are prioritized ahead of Odenigbo? But if you cut from here you're almost certainly cutting a more talented player. This group could be some dogs.

How about at WR? I know he's the replacement for Jarius and a former first round pick but I haven't seen anything out of Kendall Wright, and it's not like he's a Coley or Zylstra who could drastically improve over the next few years. Or maybe a young guy?

Linebacker? How can we cut one when we only have 5? Maybe if Zimmer is really going to go full mad scientist with multiple secondary packages, but you're also removing a key special teamer here.

Tight End? Not with only 3, especially not since Flip loves using 2 TE sets. And forget about FB, everybody loves Ham.

Seconda.....yeah never mind this is Zim we're talking about.

So assuming Elflein avoids PUP (please oh please)....how does Cornelius Edison get on the roster? Thoughts?

espn did a 53 man roster for every team. they had edison and wright being cut.

i don't know how you can keep eison if elflien is not on the PUP

yeah...i say someone would claim him.

this is the main problem i have with inexperience on the line. you stand to loose a guy with upside in order to keep a guy like compton because of who is better right now.

zimmer was alluding to this in a tweet somewhere.

coaches want the guy who is better now while GMs want the guy with more upside.

it will be interesting to see what happens saturday.

I don't think King makes the team. He came in as insurance if anything would happen to the development of Hughes. I think Hughes and Sherels look good for the returner jobs. I don't think there's room for king as WR or Returner.
