He will get offered less in free agency, and be suspended next year as well most likely. That is the sanction he will receive from his employer. He'll face legal sanction as well.

Mike Hughes made an unwise decision to drink too much. He made an unwise decision to ride with Jayron Kearse. Throwing up during a traffic stop is not a crime. He wasn't-apparently-even cited for not wearing a seatbelt. So, again, Mike Hughes broke no law. Stupidity is not a crime.

I'm somewhat curious what his BAC was... I'm guessing by the report that this wasn't as simple as being a .09 since the behavior was eratic…

As for the gun, I don't care about that personally. Not the smartest thing in the world to be carrying one when out drinking, but whatever. But seriously... uber? Free NFL car service? I really want to know why these guys don't think about that.

yeah, keep in mind these are guys who are fresh out of college likely still living a college lifestyle in the NFL... If they want to go out and get blitzed, that's their right to do on their day off. I'm not going to judge... but back to my other point. I guess Hughes would be the responsible one as he knew (presumably) he was too drunk to drive... but if they are both drinking, why the in world couldn't they get a lift home?

Why would you presume Hughes was responsible in knowing(?) he had too much to drink? Was it his car? If not, he wouldn't have been driving anyway...

I'm saying that based on his condition, Hughes was smart enough to know he shouldn't be driving.

As someone who has met many professional athletes over the years, if you think it’s not common place for them to “go out and have drunken party fun”, you’re being pretty naive. If anything, I’d say a professional athlete is MORE likely to partake in such activities than the average citizen

Can you cite the Supreme Court cases that you refer to? I'd like to see those.

And your last sentence....really? Since we only have a "Vikings under arrest" thread and not an "NFL players under arrest" thread I can't give you numbers, but I'm confident that we don't have a greater number of such offenders on our team vs other teams in the years since Zimmer got here. I'm certain there are more than a few on other teams.

Sounds like you’re just complaining to complain because it’s the Vikings. Hughes did nothing wrong but make a common mistake many kids his age, pro athlete or not, have made. Getting too drunk is not a crime, there needs to be some level of public disturbance to warrant an arrest. Which is why he was not charged with anything.

I think you have your blinders on to the arrests made around the NFL if you think this is a uniquely Vikings issue. The league has plenty of DUIs, disorderly conducts, public intoxications, drugs charges and weapons charges every year. Arrests have actually been a rare occurrence for this team over the current regime.
