Peterson Enters No Contest Plea

From Adrian:

"I'm just glad this is over," Peterson said shortly after Tuesday's plea deal was announced. "I can put this behind me, and me and my family can move forward.

"I truly regret this incident," Peterson said. "I take full responsibility for my actions. I love my son more than anyone you could even imagine, and I'm anxious to continue my relationship with my child."

Once Goodell reinstates Peterson, presuming the commissioner eventually does so, the Vikings would either have to allow the running back to return to the team or be required to release him.

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman declined to comment on Peterson during his midseason news conference Tuesday.

"All I'm going to say is basically at the appropriate time, and I know you guys can appreciate this, we'll keep all of our comments under the Adrian situation until it's appropriate to speak," Spielman said. "And I'll just leave it at that."

Whaaaaaat?

Texas law says the use of non-deadly force against someone younger than 18 is justified if a parent or guardian "reasonably believes the force is necessary to discipline the child or to safeguard or promote his welfare."

Well, that leaves it pretty much wide open! The prosecutor didn't stand a chance. *huh*

I fail to see how giving the NFL $6mill is any kind of justice served. They can't retroactively fine him 8 weeks pay for a misdemeanor....the players union would scream at the precedent that would set.

From what I understand the NFL has yet to take any disciplinary action that's why he got paid....so they either suspend and fine him or reinstate him.

I don't know it just irks the eff out of me to think of the commissioners office cashing in on this situation that has very little to do with the NFL.

If there is any retroactive suspension of pay it should go back to the vikings or some actual charity.

The NFL changed the first offense to six games earlier this year.

The punishment should be six games, retroactively, with six game checks being returned to the Vikings.

If Adrian Peterson receives a plea deal and his felony child abuse charge is bargained down to a misdemeanor, the expectation of the NFL Players Association will be that the Minnesota Vikings star should be punished as would any other player determined to be guilty of a misdemeanor, league sources told ESPN.

The NFLPA will argue that if Adrian Peterson reaches a plea deal in his child abuse case, he should be punished just like any other player found guilty of a misdemeanor, according to sources.

Peterson has missed eight games but been paid his full salary of nearly $5.3 million in his absence. The union will likely argue that the running back should be reinstated and perhaps forced to pay a substantial fine -- surrendering part of the income he's been receiving.

Fans and people in general have short memories in the sense of mob mentality. Yes there would be some protesters if he rejoins the team but overall it would be largely ignored except by the media who will make a big deal about it for the first. After that back to business as usual. It is NFL policy if you ignore it long enough it will go away. Look how much the discussion has gotten away from domestic abuse again. Just sweeping it under the rug.

My thoughts -

he will get the auto 6 game suspension, but be applied to time served on the exempt list. And he will be required to either pay back the prior 6 game checks or forgo them for the following 6 weeks. It is a net zero gain so either way is fine.

I also think that anyone who is fined for these abuse cases - the checks should go to domestic abuse charities / shelters and NOT the league office.

AP is coming back hopefully. He went for a Plea bargin. It went through but the NFL doesn't know if they will take him back. Me and Funkytown were discussing this last night, they should just fine him and put him on the team instantly. I mean the advertisements should go back up for the Vikings.
