Super Bowl or Bust! The Vikings edition.

Personally, I didn't really have any criticisms of Case.  He did well and won a lot of games.  If he had done more in the playoffs, I would have been rooting for us to tag him or extend him.  My concern was (and is) that he just doesn't have what it takes to implement a more aggressive offense that will result in us winning games because of our offense (not despite our offense).  I've never really bought into this philosophy of a player "elevating those around him."  When the chemistry is right, and the team is exceeding, then with the right players the team just naturally "elevates."

Cousins is being paid as a top ten quarterback.  He's currently the highest paid simply because he is the most recent.  The next top ten QB to sign will exceed his salary.  And the next.  And the next.  There's nothing special about his contract.  Just backtrack to Garrappolo, Carr and Safford and the pattern is obvious.  The main difference here is we had to pay a premium because he was a true FA and not a player with a year remaining on his contract and/or the threat of a tag.  That costs a bit more, but had to be paid.

Basically the same as other recent QB contracts. We had to give a bit more because he was a true FA. Nothing special.

No I wasn't saying he cant make the players around him better exactly . I was just saying that if the coaches call a crappy conservative offense and the Offensive line cant block anyone for more than two seconds and his receivers cannot get open then it would be unfair to say he's a complete bust .  I liked Case Keenum and would have been happy to roll with him another season but I also acknowledge that Cousins has a bigger arm and throws guys open where they can make YAC's better than Case . What remains to be see is does Cousins possess Cases escapability because with the line playing like they did last season the QB will have to make free running defenders miss on a regular basis . The biggest issue I fear is that unlike in Washington where they let KC throw the ball all over the field on any down that we will try to make him a dink and dunk game manager . The wildest card of them all is will conservative Zimmer let the new OC run a wide open offense like the Eagles did .
