Let's assume for a moment that the Jets really are all in on Cousins at any price. Why on earth would they share that with the media? If you go to an auction prepared to go "all in at any price" on the '67 Vette or '70 HEMI Cuda', are you going to be walking around telling everybody this?! Of course not. You're going to spend most of your time kicking the tires on the '70 big block Chevelles and telling anybody who will listen how "all in" you are on them.

I don't believe any of that Jets nonsense simply because they are far away from just needing a QB to get them to the SB. So, they sign Cousins for $50M a year? Now what? Start making those SB hotel reservations?? (roflmao)

btw: do you have a link to this "Jets announcement?" Seems unusual for a team to make such an announcement. Might even violate the league tampering rules, since he is currently under contract to another team.

There also is the rumor the Cousins is willing to take less to play on a winning team. Do not kill the messanger and let this all play out.

Although, the rumor about Kirk wanting to play for a winning team may have actually been attributed to him saying it (I lose track, it is the off season).

I believe that some of this "planting" goes on, but am more inclined to believe that the media just makes up most of this crap. As I suggested, the last thing a team planning to go "all in" would do is announce it to the world. That defies all logic.

I think Denver is still all in on Cousins, that hasn't changed. There's been talk of them wanting Cousins for at least a month or two thus far. Maybe this Jets news is trumped up but I'd buy that Denver wants him desperately.

I think of all the interested teams, the Vikings would probably be the only team Cousins would probably consider taking less money from. I believe the Vikings present the best pieces around him. Denver may be another good option. But if he goes to the Jets then it's strictly for the money.

Agree that the Jets would be all about the money. I saw an online article yesterday about 7 landing places for Cousins and the Vikings were not on it.

The media articles are a bit inconsistent, but the current one on NFL.com explains that the exclusive tag is the average of the five highest QBs for the current season, while the non-exclusive tag is the average of the five highest over the past five years. I hadn't understood that before. If this is the case, then some simple math suggests that the cost for a non-exclusive tag on Case will be $19.9M. That's a bit cheaper than some of the numbers we've been throwing about. It won't matter that it's the non-exclusive tag, because no team would give up two first round picks to "steal" him at that price.

Nobody will "go strong after him" if it will cost them two first round picks. If we tag him for $20M it eliminates most other options for us, but also gives us many options for 2019 and beyond. That may prove to be the smartest path forward, although it wouldn't thrill me for 2018 because then the only chance we have for improved QB play is likely if we keep Sam and or Teddy and they miraculously find healing and become Pro Bowl quarterback(s). I've said it before, and I'll say it again. We're basically screwed. Damned if we do and damned if we don't. The only move that provides a reasonable chance for improvement in 2018 (just one man's opinion) as well as a clear three to five year plan is Cousins. Albeit, at perhaps a silly price. This will be fun to watch play out.
