Who says they're out of reach? Would you pay former Broncos C Matt Paradis $13.5 million or Barr? I'd take Paradis. That puts a lot of pressure on the draft falling their way, or investing future capital to move up in the draft because of not addressing it in FA.
Addressing OL in free agency was always going to be tough for us; landing one of the top guys is/was more wishful thinking than anything. Look at what some of these guys are getting paid!
Barr took less to stay in Minnesota; free agent OL are going for the big payday. If the Vikings were in a position to hope and pray that an OL signs with them over a team that can offer more money OR throw some money at Barr to bring him back ... why not at least try it rather than risk losing out on both?
We have no idea what is going on behind closed doors. NO ONE thought Barr would be back, did they? No one. But here he is. I'm sure the Vikings are trying their best to get help at OL, but if it doesn't look good ... I see no problem with bringing their own back. That's how good teams stay good: keep their own and continue to draft well. Brzezinski does well with keeping our own guys, but maybe his charm doesn't work as well with others outside of the organization? Doesn't mean the Vikings aren't trying, though...
